Subs Used to Smuggle Drugs

Departing from South and Central America, pseudo-submarines are headed north full of drugs. These ships float about 99% under the surface of the water and carry shipments of up to 15,000 kilos of drugs.

The Ships very in size, ranging from 40 to 60 feet long and about 5 to 12 feet wide. Producing a minimal wake, they are able to avoid detection easily. The cabins are small and very dangerous with no room to stand and filling with fumes from the engine very easily.

With a large load of drugs the vessels cargo can yield upwards of 200 million. The ships cost around $500,000 to build and the crew is paid about $15,000 per trip.

Drunk Driving Redefined

A man in Australia was charged with drunk driving after passing out at the wheel. The oddity about this is that he was driving a motorized wheelchair and had found his way out onto a four-lane highway, seemingly after passing out.

According to reports, cars had to veer to miss hitting the wheelchair. It is considered drunk driving when you pass out while riding your bike?

Update: I was reminded that about 6 months ago a man was arrested for driving a lawn mower while intoxicated in New Zealand. Does this happen elsewhere?

God Arrested On Coke Charges

Apparently God’s ways are not mysterious enough as he was busted for drug trafficking near a church. It’s no surprise, as this was not God’s first charge. He has served due to prior charges in 2003 and 1995. God apparently will continue to serve.

God Lucky Howard is currently in the Orient Road jail on 86k bond.

Obama: Macintosh of Politics

A recent CBS poll revealed that the public feels that the media is easier on Obama than the other candidates (who knew?). The media isn’t alone. Folks seem to be very defensive about Obama. You can see it in the forums, in comments, and in listener email. That’s what John Curry found after the June 7th episode of No Agenda. Some people felt that he and John Dvorak were unnecessarily bashing Obama. It is to this news that Dvorak said something very interesting.

“Obama is the new Macintosh – you can’t say anything.”

There is a lot of truth to this statement. Obama is defended by religious zealots. If you say anything negative the fanboys appear and go crazy, sometimes issuing death threats to bloggers.

While no candidate is perfect, Dvorak is not the first to make this comparison. Roughly Drafted Magazine made some interesting notes on Obama and McCain’s connection to technology. Glenn Beck talked about how Obama has an image like apple, hybrids, and the like on his show. Matt Cooper compared Obama and Clinton to the tech industry including Clinton as Dell in the mix. The list goes on and on

Here’s the problem: Apple’s market share is somewhere around 8.1 percent. While they are a rather loud minority, you wonder if they can provide the number of electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

Most folks remember the 1984 Apple Ad that was redone with the democratic candidates, but here is one Obama ad you might have missed.

Eee Box: New Set-top box?

Asus has released the spec for it’s new small form factor PC. At $279 a piece, the specs are not really all that bad. The small case and cool industrial design is obviously the biggest draw, but what do you do with a tiny PC? Most power users and early adopters have no need for a small PC at their desk, but what about in their living room? With the addition of an ATSC tuner this would be the perfect set-top box. There would be a couple of obstacles (hard drive space, where to put the tuner within the case, etc) but the market is there for an OTA DVR. Who knows, maybe it will happen.

Rachael Ray Ad Pulled

An advertisement featuring Rachael Ray, the ironic spokes women for Dunkin’ Donuts, was pulled this past week. Can you tell why? Take a look at the photo and consider the possibilities.

Why was it pulled? Was it because of the strange perspective that makes he look really thin? Perhaps it was the photoshop feel she has against the background. Nope, wasn’t those things. Take another look at a different perspective.

Ah now you can really see it. Yup, thats right, its a keffiyeh! Yeah a keffiyeh! Whats a keffiyeh? Apparently it is one of those scarfs she is wearing. The complaint of many is that this scarf represented a support for terrorism. To understand this statement better one must first understand what a keffiyeh is and where it comes from.

Harry Potter Prequel?

Just When you think their can’t be any more Harry Potter maddness…

Rowling has an “800-word outline of a prequel to the seven book series” that will never be written, or so we are told. The outline will be up for auction June 10th and the proceeds will go to charity.

This is just another publicity stunt by Rowling to get more attention on her enormusly popular books. Look at the Dombledore is Gay stunt and how much attention that got her. I suppose I’m not the biggest fan of Harry.

Bright House Networks Marketing Ploy

While downloading the latest twit this past weekend I noticed that my sustained download speed had more than tripled. I was pretty psyched about it and then I received this email:

This marketing maneuver reminds me of the days when we used to get the premium channels free for a few weeks. Overall, I am pretty pleased with my roadrunner lite service – mostly because it is quite cheap. Gonna download a bunch of videos in the next few days.
