- Sell Merchandise
- Sell Prints
- Work with Traditional Media
I have already heard the obligatory “duh” resounding from the back of the room, but I would be remiss if I didn’t include it. Often times the merchandise that is most popular is the iconic characters or events sell well (i.e. Trogdor). Consider the cultural language you are speaking and utilize it. Inside jokes sell.
It would be very hard to sell a print of an entire blog post (unless it was in a book), but webcomics can fit on anything and make sense out of context. Just think of the mug, sticker, and of course, the t-shirt. Popular comics can directly translate their popularity to merchandise.
With popularity comes more options. As a fan base is built the ability to negotiate more traditional publishing deals, both syndicated and anthology based. In addition to this, there is also the opportunity to speak and lecture on both personal and business success and strategies as well as webcomic theory and what every the crap you want to talk about. If you are popular, people pay to see you. Consider Gallagher.
This list is not the end all. There are a number of other resources listed below for further thought and consideration. Also, check out the list of webcomics on Wikipedia and read a few.
